芥川龍之介 - 鼻 Akutagawa's Hana

Hana by Akutagawa Ryuunosuke

Akutagawa Ryūnosuke wrote over 150 short stories in his short life (died at 35). Kurosawa based his famous movie, Rashōmon (羅生門) on Akutagawa's Rashōmon and In a Grove (藪の中 yabu no naka) another short story written in 1921.

This story, The Nose (鼻 hana), was composed in 1916 and is about a monk with a very large nose (hence the title). The story addresses jealousy, egoism, and the making fun of others all with a hint of humor here and there. Natsume Sōseki (夏目漱石) gave the story high praise.

--

The short story is complete here broken down into eight pages for ease of reading. Each page has a MP3 file for that section. You can also download and print out the PDF for each section for printing and studying offline.

I hope to eventually add a vocabulary list for each section, but it will have to wait. (Unless someone would like to volunteer?! :) )

Well, "」芥川龍之介" now points the

Well, "」芥川龍之介" now points the right place, but the first two characters on that line, "「鼻", still point to "Basic Beginning Japanese Phrases", and the next line, Koinobori, is still a broken link.

はっ! I can't wait until we upgrade the site :) Going through the current site while moving pages over I've found tons of broken links and inconsistencies.

Well, I made a book for 鼻. That isn't how you had it organized on the old site, but I think it makes navigating the story easier.

Thanks Rich!!

Thanks Rich!!

So there was more

I only saw links to the first 4 parts, so that's all I copied over.

Yes, and I must have had two

Yes, and I must have had two copies of the series. What you copied over didn't have the MP3 player. You copied over a copy of the story I had messed up :) Sorry about that.

Also, I hope you don't mind, but I changed the directory structure for Yuki to be more logical (and esthetically pleasing). I am not sure if you linked to the pages directly from your site, but if you did, please update. The download links should be the same.

From now on all ebooks will be under the /ebook/ directory.

I don't mind

I'm only linking to the audio files and download page (and the Youtube video, but that's offsite anyway), so as long as those don't move, I'm good. I followed the links from the main page on the current site to find the first 4 parts, so you might want to fix that (if you haven't already.)

Thanks, I'll get that

Thanks, I'll get that fixed.

EDIT:
>>I followed the links from the main page on the current site to find the first 4 parts, so you might want to fix that (if you haven't already.)

Which links? The main links are dynamically updated, but if I did a manual link,I'll have to change that. Is there a broken link now?

The links in the Reading and

The links in the Reading and Listening to Japanese section. 「鼻 points here: http://www.thejapanesepage.com/beginners/basic_phrases and 」芥川龍之介 points here: http://www.thejapanesepage.com/audio/by/article/advanced_nose

On top of that, the link for Koinobori generates a "Page not Found" error.

Sorry Rich, I'm dense. I

Sorry Rich, I'm dense. I still don't know which page you mean. Which page has the bad links? http://www.thejapanesepage.com/audio_files is the audio section and all the links are dynamic (meaning they are correct even if we change the link on the page)

I mean

I mean http://www.thejapanesepage.com/ has bad links on it, down below the big Friends ad. I'm not talking about the beta site.

Gotcha! Ok. I'll fix that.

Gotcha! Ok. I'll fix that. I haven't been fixing every bad link on the new site since there are so many! (and hopefully we will move to this one somewhat soon.

If you fixed, it got lost in

If you fixed, it got lost in the server crash.
