Although のに

A close cousin to ので (above), is のに. It is often used to show disappointment in the current situation.

Just add it after an adjective...
一生懸命勉強したのに、テストを落ちた。
isshou kenmei benkyou shita noni, tesuto o ochita.
Even though I studied really hard, I flunked the test.

  • 09:38:23 Anyone care to provide some furigana on the kanji in the poll so I can translate and vote?
  • 10:22:16 Sorry the poll really was just for admins during the test period. The first choice means 'Passes' and the second means 'Start over from square one'
  • 10:23:03 We'll change the poll probably tomorrow. Still ironing out bigger bugs before polishing things.
