Romaji: boku no tsuma wa mise de ichiban takai kaban o katte shimatta.
English: My wife bought the most expensive purse in the store! (shimatta implies it is unfortunate)

Japanese: 今日はリンゴが安いので、2個いましょう。
Romaji: kyou wa ringo ga yasui node, ni ko kaimashou.
Literal: today-(topic)-apple-(subject)-cheap-because-2 units-lets buy
English: Today, apples are inexpensive so let's buy 2.

Japanese: 新しい車をいたい。

Japanese: 兄はエレキギターをいました。

A lot of money words also have shell kai [貝] as part of the kanji. A long time ago shells were used as money.
