How... どう

Here is a very useful question word -- どう dou -- Let's look at ways of using dou.

How is (it)? [Use this for asking about food, or anything that is being done now]

How was (it)? [Use this to find out about past experiences - movie, last night's date, molded pizza you just ate...]

OTHER WAYS!

How do you do it? [Ask this when you are not sure how to do something]

What happened? [Ask this if someone looks sad or something has happened]

どうしよう dou shiyou What shall (I or we) do? [This is often used when you can't make a decision and want help... doushiyou, ne!]

What will you do? [When you want to encourage someone to make a decision -- Well, what will you do?]

No 『の』

What does 'no' function (or mean) here?

Re: 『の』

I believe its softens the sentence, like ね.

I used to think の in these cases would mean like "plug in the obvious," 'cause its known as the connector. :3

の in this case is similar to か。It's a question marker. But it's more...umm...casual than か

But you can still add か

But you can still add か after the の when its like this. I don't know if its correct, but my friends used のか sometimes so I do too. :3

Oh yeah. There is another の that goes at the end. XD The 'explanation' の. I believe that's the の you're thinking of →のか。I'm...umm..pretty certain. ^_^;

Ok...

So to sum it up, 「...の?」could be a hybrid of「...か?」 and 「...ね.」, am I right?.. or another misconception?

の・か・ね are all sentence ending particles. If you're a beginner I suggest you treat の and か as the same till you learn more. As for ね treat it more like "blah blah blah, yeah?" or the like.
And yes, there are more than just those three.

!<(゚o゚)>! Whoa!

More than three?!?.. Hehehe... Gotta brace myself... Thanks for the help, Oni-san and Mattan-san!
