TJP Design Discussion Group

Any ideas on a new logo, color scheme and general appearance would be appreciated!

I hate to do this but after a full day of troubleshooting I think this is the only way to fix everything.

As you may know, non-members are able to view and edit posts in a few groups. (just log out and look at this page) I had 'fixed' the problem a few days ago, but in doing the 'fix' I messed up something even bigger. So I unfixed my fix and changed a few settings.

Basically what it boils down to is the groups I created when I first installed Drupal (Design Group, JLPT 1, JLPT 2, JLPT 3, JLPT 4) have a little bug that can't be fixed through the admin settings.

Testing

This is a test.

Or maybe more like this?

Or maybe more like this?

The blue seems to help tie it into the rest of the site... hrm...

heh... this all really would be easier with a unified theme. ;)

How about something like this?

How about something like this?

I have a few critiques of it already...

1) It doesn't use a "brandable" logo... like the bonsai or the old color TJP logo.
2) It could be better blended with the rest of the site color-wise I think.

A few other things possibly...

Opinions?

I'd like to work on it, but need some opinions first.

I'd like to work on it, but need some opinions first.

These are an example of some of the banners I've done for the new website I'm working on, to give you an idea of my level of design ability.

I have some questions that I would like some help with; Is the bonsai tree logo an official one? Is there a higher resolution copy of it available etc? Is the font not open for changes?

I'd like to have a crack at doing a new header design for the site, but I'd like some feedback from you guys/gals first. :)

(I might just have a crack at it anyway... but I figure it doesn't hurt to get some feedback first before I get too carried away. Thanks!)

My Attempts

I added texture (the stripey line thingies) to the headers because I thought they looked a bit plain without it, but can be removed. Also, text can be edited/added etc.

I got the 'Japan' map (on the right hand side) from Wikipedia, and it shows the countries on a globe so it looks a bit skewed but I thought it was alright.

Enjoy.

Bigger text. I can't say I'm really happy with any of these so far...

This time I've changed the background to a tatami mat with a border.

Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle

Taken in June 2006. A few extraneous trees, etc.. in the way. No blooming sakura though. This is a highly compressed version so I could upload it. Not as nice as some of the stock photo's I've seen.

Best one!

Best one!

So when I found this one I was very excited. =P

It has Cherry Blossoms AND a bridge. Besides being cute. The size is a bit small though.

I hope posting so many in a row isn't spamming...

I just thought this picture was pretty cool. ^^ Besides being blue like the site!

Cherry Blossom 2

Cherry Blossom 2

So this is another picture I found and liked. I think if the Cherry Blossom could be separated from the rest of the picture it would look great. Or just use it has a model to create another picture.

Anyway, here it is.

PS: I had to reduce the image for it to let me post it so I hope the quality is still good enough.

So I went searching for a few images on Cherry Blossoms and I found this one. I just love it. The Castle is a very Japanese Symbol isn't it? And it could symbolize the "empire" TJP has already become. With this new site even more with the blogs and groups that'll make more ways of communicating with other members and probably attract even more people.
