日本語できます・・・かな?

Perhaps the oddest NHK show of all time is called エリンが挑戦!にほんごできます. (Erin challenges – I can speak Japanese)
It is very well made and interesting to watch but the subject matter seems… oddly mismatched.
The show is about a high school girl whose father is English and mother is Japanese. Each episode concentrates on a very useful… but simple… grammatical pattern. The grammar is beginner-upper beginner level but the entire show is in everyday Japanese.
The oddity is quite simply if your Japanese is good enough to understand what is being said, the grammar point covered is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy.
It really amazes me so much effort is put in to create a show no one could find useful.
Interestingly, here is a blog that writes about this week’s episode.
