TRANSCRIPT
こんにちは、由美です。 Hello, this is Yumi. And this is Clay.
Today.
We're continuing with our One Piece marathon.
This is the third video in our series.
If you miss the first two, we have a link in the description below.
So check that out.
Let's get started.
So last time when we left off ルフィ is the name of the young boy.
The man young man.
It looked like he died.
It looked like he was in a small boat.
And there was this huge whirl wind and he can't swim.
So it looks like he's dead, but spoiler alert.
He's not dead because there are 99 more
books in this series to go and you can't kill him off yet.
So let's start with this.
We're in chapter two now, and the chapter two heading is
第2話 2nd Chapter
その男「麦わらのルフィ」 That man, "Luffy of the strawhat)
second chapter その男 that person, that man
麦わら means a straw,
but a straw hat here and then ルフィ is the name.
This is a naming convention similar to,
I think, クマのプーさん where you have the name プー in this case, ルフィ
of at the end and then you have the descriptor before it.
So クマのプーさん means プー, who is a bear.
And this 麦わら のルフィ is Luffy, who is of the straw hat.
He's known for his straw hats, I guess
とある島(しま)ー・ザザーン an island
A certain island.
So ある means, it shows uncertainty.
It shows...
Doesn't have a name or it may have a name,
but it's not important ある人【ひと】 means someone, some person.
And so in this case, ある島【しま】 one island, a certain island
ドン Bam!
ツー (effect of running her finger across wood)
何(なん)だい?このホコリは・・・ What is this? This dust…
We have a woman's finger and she's
scrapes it across the wood and she looks and says, What's this?
What's this dust?
ホコリ is dust だい is a question marker.
So what's this?
も・・・も!!申(もう)し訳(わけ)ありません!!アルビダ様(さま) I'm ttterribly sorry Lady Arubida!
船(ふね)は隅(すみ)から隅(すみ)まで掃除(そうじ)したつもりでしたが・・・!! I meant to clean the boat from top to bottom, but…
So we have one of the subordinates who is saying, I am so sorry.
I have no excuse.
訳(わけ) means an excuse or a reason.
I can say no excuse.
I have no excuse for my behavior.
I am so sorry.
And then the lady's name is, oh, we have a cat.
All right.
That's the second time today and her name is アルビダ
アルビダ様(さま)
so I'm so sorry.
And then 船(ふね) on the ship I meant to つもり shows intention.
So I meant to clean.
So I meant to clean 掃除(そうじ) from corner to corner
is the Japanese expression so that's a useful expression, isn't it?
隅(すみ)から隅(すみ)まで In English, we would say "top to bottom" or
"every nook and cranny" or something like that.
So every place he wants to be meant to clean .
も・・・もう一度(いちど)やり直(なお)しますので・・・ど・・・どうか・・・! I will start over. Just… please…
どうか何(なん)だい? Please what?
And so he continues and says, I'm gonna do it one more time.
I'm gonna start over.
Just please, I beg of you.
どうか means to beg or I entreat of you, please.
And she says, what do you mean by どうか?
What do you mean by please?
どうか金棒(かなぼう)だけは・・・!いやだ死(し)にたくない! Just please not the iron club. I don't want to die!
So the どうか the please means anything but the 金棒(かなぼう)
the metal club, the metal club.
Now, when I see 金棒(かなぼう) I think of Oni carrying -- the Japanese
legendary creatures who carry these these metal
鬼が持っているね、金棒 The oni carry, you know, the iron clubs.
Metal clubs. And they're really scary creatures.
Well, here's this lady captain, who is also a very scary creature.
He says, I just beg you, not the club.
I don't want to die.
And then it sounds like he's dead.
So it sounds like she actually did use the club.
And now she shifts to Coby.
Can you read that?
コビー!この海(うみ)で一番美(いちばんうつく)しいものは何(なん)だい? Coby! What's the most beautiful thing in the whole ocean?
Coby?
That's the name of the child here.
Who's on her ship.
But what is the most beautiful thing in this ocean
この海(うみ)で in this ocean, on the seas.
一番美(いちばんうつく)しい the most beautiful; もの thing.
何(なん)だい? what is ?
え・・・えへへへもちろん、それはレディアルビダ様(さま)です!えへへへ Eh, hehe. Of course, that would be Lady Arubida!
The えへへへ is a nervous laughter.
And he says, of course, もちろん of course it is. The lady.
What's your name again? アルビダ様(さま)
そうさ!!だからアタシは汚(きたな)いものが大嫌(だいきら)いなのさ!! That's right. And that is why I don't like dirty things.
that's right. Therefore, I I
don't like dirty things.
I hate dirty things. 大嫌(だいきら)い
I hate or dislike greatly .
美(うつく)しいアタシが乗(の)る船(ふね)も美(うつく)しくなきゃねェ!!そうだろう? We must keep beautiful the boat that carries the beautiful me.
We must keep the boat beautiful.
That carries the beautiful ME
美(うつく)しいアタシ The beautiful me
because I'm beautiful.
And the boat that I ride on.
乗(の)る船(ふね)
the verb before the noun modifies the noun.
It describes the noun.
The 乗(の)る船(ふね)
the boat she's riding on must also be kept becomes clean.
Don't you think so そうだろう?
お前(まえ)にはどういう訳(わけ)か人一倍海(ひといちばいうみ)の知識(ちしき)があるから生(い)かしておいてやってるんだ I don't understand it, but you have "ocean knowledge" (knowledge of the seas) more than others and that is why I am keeping you alive.
は・・・はい。ありがとうございます。 Yes, thank you.
Okay, お前(まえ) means you には as for with you.
どういう訳(わけ) for what reason?
Or I don't understand.
But 人一倍(ひといちばい) means more than the average person.
So more than others.
人一倍(ひといちばい) ,海(うみ)の知識(ちしき) the sea knowledge
or knowledge of the sea, which probably - some hidden meaning. What do you think?
もしかしたら、宝の場所が彼は知っているのかもしれない Maybe he might know where treasure is.
So he noticed something.
Maybe like you said, where the treasure is
or something that she's keeping him alive for.
Because you have this ocean knowledge or sea knowledge I am letting you live .
は・・・はい。ありがとうございます。 Yes, thank you.
ビクビク Is that a shaking sound?
ビクビク、そう。怖がっている。 Biku biku. Yes. He is afraid.
Still very nervous?
怖がっているの様子はビクビク。 Showing signs of being afraid is ビクビク
So, yes, thank you very much.
That she's keeping him alive because he has some knowledge.
それ以外(いがい)は能(のう)がないんだからとっととクツを磨(みが)きな! Other than that, you are talentless. Therefore, hurry up and shine my shoes.
But other than that knowledge or whatever
it is that he knows that she wants to keep.
You have no abilities or you're useless.
You have nothing that I want, therefore, とっとと means quickly.
とっとと means quickly.
とっととは、そう、さっさと。はやくやってね!ということ "tottoto," yes, sassato (quickly). Hurry up and do it! Like that.
And クツ boots or shoes here
磨(みが)き?うん、磨(みが)きなさい。 Shine or polish? Yes. Shine (my shoes)
clean. Or Shine my boots.
Shine my shoes.
ガンガン。ぴく。は・・・はいすぐに! Yes! Right away!
Yes. Immediately.
Right away.
And that's where we're going to stop for this video.
Well stay tuned in another day or so.
We'll have another video with the next page and we'll see you then.
Thank you. Bye bye.
