The Japanese Page Word of the Day - Movie

今日のことば
Word of the Day: May 7, 2018

映画

noun | えいが

MEANING: movie

EXAMPLE SENTENCE:

今日は映画を見に行きませんか?

きょうは えいが を みに いきませんか?
Would you like to see a movie?

NOTES:

Literally, this would be “Today, wouldn’t you like to go see a movie?” The negative question is often used when politely asking if someone “wouldn’t like” to do something.

VOCABULARY:

今日 【きょう】–today
見に行く 【みにいく】–to go to see…
行きませんか 【いきませんか】–wouldn’t (you like) to go
か 【か】–question marker

    • Totally agree, but I don’t think this post has romaji. Only a few older pages have romaji. Newer pages have furigana if you mouseover them. Eventually, I’ll clean up all the old pages and add furigana where missing. Eventually…

  • I can’t believe I found this site! I really appreciate the lessons daily, and this is helping me greatly to improve my understanding of Kanji. Love the fact that it is in kana and Kanji, not Romaji. ありがとうございます!

  • きょうは えいが を みに いきませんか。
    Kyōwa eiga wo mini ikimasenka.
This is the romanji for the ones who dont know kana yet ☺️

  • I also think its very hard, as a complete beginner, to not have letters to follow the pronunciation and also the words alone with. Would really appriciate if that would be included in following e-mails!

    • Sumimasen, Um, it’s much better to learn Kana first. It really doesn’t take that long to learn. You can learn Kana in a day if you have the time for it. To help, here is a tool that will help you learn fast. I am also a beginner, and if you don’t learn the alphabet, you will never know the proper pronunciation. For instance, there are things that Romaji doesn’t explain well like ou, oo, and n. And, its great practice to read Kana and kanji instead of romaji. Well, I hope this helps. https://drlingua.com/japanese/games/kana-bento/

  • agree, very difficult to grasp the pronounciation without romaji if you are a total beginner. will unsubscribe again.

  • Thank you very much. However it would be better to have the romaji writing as the audio we have to repeat several times and it is possible to miss some of the words. Thank you very much Juan Montes 0404834828
