Grammar Notes:

■ お金(かね)を　もって　きて　もいい　です。 (You) may bring money.

The 〜てもいい construction means “you may” or “it is allowed.” Tack もいい (also okay) after the て form of a verb to make that act permissible:

• 食(た)べても　いい　です　か？　Is it all right to eat?
• しつもん　しても　いい　です　か？ May I ask a question?
• どっち　でも　いい　です。 Either way is fine.
• なんでも　いい　です。 Anything is fine.

You can also use it with a negative to mean “there’s no need” or “you don’t have to…”

• きんちょう　しなくても　いい　です　よ。 There’s no need to be that tense.
• おさけを　のまなくても　いい　です。 You don’t have to drink sake. [The お before さけ is polite language]
