元 means former; used to be; Ex

He is my ex-boyfriend.
- あの人【あのひと】 that person [あの indicates the person is not presently near the speaker or listener]
- 私の【わたしの】my [this is the pronoun 私 (I; me) with the possessive の]
- 元カレ【もとかれ】former boyfriend [the カレ is from 彼 which is the pronoun for “he” or “him”]
