EXAMPLE SENTENCE:

疲労がたまっていると、かえって眠れない。

ひろうがたまっていると、かえってねむれない。
When I am exhausted, contrary to expectations, I can’t sleep.

 

NOTES:

かえって is used when something happens outside of expectations
